Staying Safe in Heavy Rain

Hydroplaning can happen without any warning. If rain is coming down quickly, you could experience loss of control on the road. This is especially true if you are driving at 45 mph or faster. Slamming on your breaks is not a good idea because you could lose control even faster.

Try removing your foot from the break and letting go of the gas. Try to steer your car in the middle of the lane to avoid the excess water that builds up at the outer edges. Before you ever get behind the wheel in a rain storm, you should make sure that your tires have been properly inflated. Having them regularly rotated will prevent them from wearing down unevenly so that you are more likely to grip the road in bad weather.

Stop by our service center at Vance Country Ford in Guthrie, OK to make sure that your tires are ready to take on rainy weather.
